Ideas for home Salt dough keepsakes

Salt dough keepsakes

Time: 30 minutes plus drying · Age: From age 4

Press one big hand and one small hand into the same piece, and you've got a real keepsake.

What you need

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • About ¾ cup of water
  • Paints for after it dries

Steps

  1. Mix the flour and salt, then add the water bit by bit.
  2. Knead until the dough is smooth.
  3. Roll it out, then press in your hands or cut shapes.
  4. Poke a small hole with a pencil if you want to hang it.
  5. Air-dry for a day or two, or have dad bake it in a low oven at 120°C for about two hours.
  6. Paint it once it's cool.

Take care

This dough isn't for eating; it's full of salt. And the oven is a grown-up's job.
